In the past 10 years, Tudor has been doing a fantastic job with its contemporary offerings.
Watches such as the Black Bay, Heritage Chronograph, and Pelagos collections have been flying off the shelves for their impressive looks, sporty construction and aggressive price points. But for sheer utility, sportiness, and integration of modern materials, it’s the Pelagos that has us most impressed.
Though it draws from Tudor’s back catalog of dive watches for aesthetic inspiration, the Pelagos brings a forward-thinking design to the tool watch arena. Constructed from titanium and featuring a unique, automatically-adjusting clasp, this is the type of timepiece that a saturation diver would happily strap on while working hundreds of meters below the surface of the ocean.
This particular Pelagos, a 'LHD' model, features a 42mm titanium case with a helium escape valve, a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a unidirectional rotating dive timing bezel with a luminous black insert. It features a matte black dial with 'aged' luminous indices, an outer minute track in white, a 'roulette' date window at 3:00, and a matching ‘snowflake’ handset.
Paired to an excellent signed black rubber strap with a titanium pin buckle, this piece is powered by the in-house, COSC-certified Tudor Calibre MT5612 automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve.
We can’t overstate this enough: The Pelagos is one of the best dive watch designs of the 21st century - and very well the best in the Rolex family. It has become a modern classic, and just takes taking it below the waves to see what we're talking about.
