The Rolex Submariner is a classic, and there’s good reason why almost every collector winds up with a vintage Rolex sports model in their stash - these are timeless, tough, do-anything, go-anywhere tool watches. Rolex has been producing Submariners uninterrupted since the watch was introduced in 1953, and while those first Big Crown subs are truly incredible pieces, most of us will have to wait for our lottery numbers to hit to get one of those strapped to our wrist. For the purist collector, the no-date Reference 5512 is arguably the single most desirable matte dial variant short of a 'MilSub'. Great, honest examples are becoming a real challenge to source, and it takes us months of searching and plenty of passes before we'll ante up. So when we offer one, you can be sure it passes muster. This particular example dates to circa 1968 and features the 39mm Oyster case with 'holey-lugs' that we all love, a matte black Tritium 'four-line' dial with a matching handset, a domed acrylic crystal, a bidirectional rotating dive timing bezel with a faded insert, and a folded-link Oyster bracelet with a signed blade clasp. While the Reference 5513 is arguably the cleanest variant of the Submariner line, the Reference 5512 exists for those looking for something that is just one cut deeper.
