Watches and motorsports are inextricably linked. In many ways, the Heuer Carrera is at the heart of that connection.  From its very inception, the Carrera was meant to break the mould set by Heuer’s earlier chronographs. Like the Autavia, the first watch that Jack Heuer had a hand in creating, the Carrera was intended to be a watch for the racer scene. But rather than rely on the tried-and-true to create the Carrera, Jack Heuer sought to create something entirely new, drawing inspiration from the work of masters of modern design. This example, a Reference 2447NST, dates to the late 1960s. It features the now-iconic 35mm stainless steel case with long faceted lugs, barrel chronograph pushers, a signed crown, acrylic crystal and a stunning ‘Reverse-Panda’ dial that served as a large inspiration for the much celebrated release of TAG Heuer Carrera ‘Glassbox’ Carrera released in 39mm last year.  Its luminous reverse panda dial houses a triple-register display, applied markers, matching handset and a peripheral tachymeter scale which earns this Carrera its ‘NST’ reference nomenclature. Beautifully balanced within the confines of a 35mm case, the dial design is well-executed and remains a classic in the realm of hand-cranking chronographs. Powered by the venerable Valjoux 72 chronograph movement and paired with a period style black leather Rallye strap with a signed Heuer ‘B’ pin buckle, this piece is an outstanding artifact from the golden era of motorsports - and sport chronograph design. Whether you’re taking the inside line during an overtake at your local track or just cruising around town reminiscing of a time when sex was safe and racing was dangerous, it’s the perfect companion for those who's hearts beat to the rhythm of a hand-wound wristwatch - or a howling carbureted racing motor!
