Today, Movado is probably best known for producing accessibly-priced fashion watches such as the always-popular Museum Watch collection. But from the 1930s through the 1960s, Movado was making tough, purpose-driven timepieces that stood up against anything being offered by the larger, more well-known brands. Perhaps some of the most beloved vintage Movados from this era are chronographs powered by the Calibre M90 and M95 modular movements developed by Frédéric Piguet. Constituting the brand's sport chronograph offerings, these watches were available in a wide array of dials, cases, and other configurations. Dating to circa 1960s, this particular M95 is an absolute gem of a midcentury piece: Housed in a 35mm 14K yellow gold case with an onion crown, dual pump pushers, an acrylic crystal, a screw-down caseback, and a stepped bezel, it features a lovely brushed champange dial with an outer 1/5th-seconds track, applied 'dart' and stylized 'Arabic' indices, three recessed chronograph totalizers, and a luminescent 'sword' handset with red chronograph totalizer hands. Powered by the brand's famed Calibre M95 manual-winding chronograph movement, it comes paired to an 18mm calfskin strap. Perfectly sized for both men and women and beautifully preserved, this gorgeous piece in excellent condition is ready for another 60 years of faithful service. Try it on for size, and we're sure you'll agree!
