Bulova 'Parking Meter' Chronograph

The 1970s was a golden age for creative industrial design, with watchmaking being particularly fertile ground for innovation. Oversized cases, bright colors, strange complications — the confluence of the hippie movement with new sporting and leisure activities resulted in specialist timepieces whose fun-loving designs are finding new life today as beloved vintage goods. This funky 1970s timepiece is from beloved American-founded brand, Bulova. Housed in an unabashedly curvaceous 43mm stainless case, it features a blue-grey bezel, a flat sapphire crystal, a signed crown at 6 o’clock, and a ‘bullhead’ chronograph pusher configuration at 11 o’clock and 1 o’clock. The silver dial features a vertical satin finish and a pair of subsidiary registers outlined by a blue silhouette from which this piece gets its nickname — the 'Parking Meter'! The dial additionally features a tachymetre scale displayed on the rehaut, a date window at 3 o’clock, an orange, center-mounted, chrono seconds hand, a matching hand set and a 'T Swiss Made T' signature denoting the use of tritium on the dial. In excellent condition, this pieces comes mounted on a leather strap with a stainless steel pin buckle. Bulova has one of the most underrated catalogs in the biz and deserves to be recognized and appreciated in any collection!
