Why We Love It
Often overshadowed by their royal cousins, Tudor Submariners are some of our absolute favorite vintage divers.
From Tudor’s start in the 1940s as Rolex’s gateway brand, for every Rolex model there was a Tudor-branded variant: an Oyster Prince for every Datejust, a Big Block for every Daytona, and a Submariner for every… Submariner. And yet, with the Tudor Sub, Rolex experimented with dial designs and colors, resulting in a watch that—far from being a pale facsimile of the original— was as unique as it was dependable.
One could say that Tudor Subs have a more playful personality than their big brothers. This particular example a Ref. 79090 from the early 1990's, is in beautiful condition with a clean blue dial and blue bezel insert, and even off white tritium lume.
In many ways, its the perfect summer watch.
The Story
Tudor has been hitting it out of the park these past few years with their modern line and return to the US Market, and appreciation for their vintage models continues to rise.
Particularly desirable amongst the vintage offerings is their Submariner line, which ran alongside their siblings - the iconic Rolex Submariner. Tudor Subs feature the same cases, crowns, and build quality as their "Big Brother" Rolex models, but were fitted without the in-house movements that gave Rolex their price tag.
