In the De Ville line, introduced in 1960, Omega combined the water-resistant case of the Seamaster line with high-grade movements often used in other references. However, the cases of the De Ville line — in any metal — were thinner and more elegant than their sportier contemporaries. In such a way, elegance wasn't substituted for functionality, and the De Ville could be worn with a suit and not lose any of its water resistance. While it appeared in numerous guises throughout the 1960s — from slim, handsome dress watches to classic chronographs — some of the funkiest iterations date to the 1970s. Take this Ref. 151.0051, for example: Housed in a thin, 36mm-wide stainless steel 'TV' case with short lugs, an acrylic crystal, and a signed crown, it features a silvered multi-tone dial with an outer minute track in black; an inner, vertically brushed section with black printing; and a thin 'pencil' handset. Powered by the ultra-thin, automatic Omega Calibre 711 hidden behind a screw-down caseback, this supremely cool, TV-shaped watch represents one of the most compelling periods in 20th-century watch design.
