Grand Seiko is the darling of contemporary watch collectors today, and taking even a cursory glance at the design specs — or better yet, an example in the metal — it’s easy to see why. The artisanal talent that goes into the design and manufacturing process of a GS dial alone is simply stunning. Depending on the angle, the color and composition of a textured Grand Seiko face will look completely different. They’re truly works of art steeped in Japanese tradition. This particular GS, an SBGM239, is a special, limited edition GMT-equipped model for HODINKEE dating to the 2020s. Housed in a 40mm stainless steel case with ‘holey’ lugs, a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a polished bezel, it features a matte blue dial with applied high-polish stainless steel indices with a matching ‘alpha’ handset, a silver ‘broad arrow’ GMT hand, an inner 24-hour scale, and a date.  Powered by the in-house, automatic 9S66 movement from Grand Seiko — a movement tested for 17 days and adjusted in six positions and compensated for temperature changes — it comes paired to a stainless steel multi-link bracelet with a signed, push-button clasp. In excellent condition, it even ships with its factory goodies.  Handsome, well sized and easy to use — the local hour hand can be jumped in either direction in one-hour increments — this is the type of GMT watch we’d like to see more of.
