There are great chronographs, and then there are Lange chronographs. The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph Ref. 414.028 sits comfortably in the latter category—a watch that manages to feel historically grounded, mechanically obsessive, and visually restrained all at once. In typical Lange fashion, nothing here exists for decoration alone. Every detail serves the greater whole. Housed in a 39.5mm white gold case, this example pairs the warmth of traditional chronograph design with the stark drama of a black solid-silver dial. The contrast is exceptional. Arabic numerals, railroad tracks, and recessed sub-registers seem to float above the surface, while the pulsometer scale around the dial’s perimeter adds a distinctly old-world, almost scientific character.
