You've probably heard us mention Zodiac over the years, but chance are it was during one of our rants about Heuer and the wide array of watches that the brand manufactured for other companies during the late 1960s and early 1970s. And while there is no question that you'll hear those stories again this year, we are excited to be able to have a conversation about Zodiac all on its own. With roots going back to the late 19th century, the brand that would come to be known as Zodiac distinguished itself from its earliest days with some impressive technical feats. They produced flat pocket watches in the 1920s, some of the industry's earliest automatic watches in the 1930s, and power-reserve complications in the 1940s. As the intention of Ariste Calame when founding Zodiac was to specialize in the production of complicated movements, it’s no surprise that the lineage of technical expertise would live on throughout the brand’s history. This piece exemplifies the quirky side of the Zodiac production history. This SST 36000 features a high-beat automatic winding movement (hence the 36000 beat rate in the name), day date complication, and most notably, an incredible geometric case shape with integrated bracelet.  Notice the red dot on the lower right quandrant of the dial? This signifies that the watch is part of their Red Point series, which is reserved for professional steel sports models, while the Silver and Gold Point designation was used for their even more eccentric offerings. There simply aren't watches made like this one in the modern market. A holdover of the 1970s, this piece speaks to a more eccentric time in the watch industry. Check it out today!
