For the better part of the past decade, Tudor has been knocking it out of the park with their contemporary offerings. Watches such as the Black Bay, Heritage Chronograph and Pelagos collections have been flying off the shelves for their impressive looks, sporty construction and thoughtful price points.
With all of the sporty bangers in Tudor’s Black Bay collection, it would be easy to overlook their simpler, time-only offerings. With nearly-perfect proportions, vintage nods including their signature ‘snowflake’ handset, uncluttered caseback and a minimal, elegant design, the Black Bay also offers an incredible value proposition for those looking for a versatile three-handed watch.
In 2017, Tudor grew the Black Bay collection -quite literally- when they released the Black Bay 41, a larger sibling to the massively popular BB36.
This piece, a Reference 79690, features a 41mm stainless steel case with a polished fixed bezel, a ‘rose’ signed screw-down crown, a sapphire crystal and a blue sunburst dial that sports a luminous applied indices, a matching ‘snowflake’ handset, a ‘lollipop’ seconds hand and straight-line text at 6 o’clock.
It houses Tudor’s self-winding, COSC-certified Calibre MT5601 equipped with a weekend-proof 70 hour power reserve and comes fitted to a sleek multi-link stainless steel bracelet with a signed flip-lock clasp. Don’t let its refined look fool you either — this BB41 boasts 100 meters of water resistance — more than enough for any casual swim.
We simply cannot speak highly enough of this watch as an entry-level daily driver, for anyone who prefers a slightly larger case size.
It’s simple, robust, and yup... timeless. Perfect? You decide.
