If you’re looking for a striking dress watch produced in the tradition of classics hundreds of years old, then you should be looking at Breguet.
Established in 1775 by perhaps the most notable watchmaker to ever walk this earth, Abraham Louis Breguet, his eponymous brand is famed for its stunning guilloché dials. When paired with a well shaped watch case and a simple leather strap, such a timepiece transcends the era in which it was made, becoming a work of horological art.
The particular Breguet however, part of the Marine collection, straddles the line between a dress watch and a sports watch. It combines traditional Breguet watchmaking techniques with some sportier design aesthetics and functionality.
Dating to the late 2000s and housed in a 39mm stainless steel coin-edge case with ‘officer’s’ lugs, a signed, screw-down crown, and a polished bezel, it features a luminous, multi-tone silver dial with a gorgeous, spiraling guilloché pattern, applied, blued-steel ‘Roman’ indices, a matching ‘Breguet’ handset, and a ‘digital’ date display above 6 o’clock.
This watch comes paired to a signed, textured, navy blue rubber strap with a signed, steel deployant clasp and is powered by Breguet's Calibre 517GG automatic winding movement — which is visible via a sapphire caseback.
When paired to its rubber strap, this handsome piece transforms into an excellent everyday watch. But throw it on a simple leather strap, and it instantly becomes an accessory to formalwear.
Versatile and lovely, it’s a solid candidate for a one-watch collection given its robust build quality and under-the-radar looks.
