The Melville GMT is Islander's take on an all-occasion GMT — something that doesn't read as purely sport or purely dress, built around a true caller GMT movement at a price that makes the complication accessible. The dial concept is the hook: a hammer-textured surface inspired by the dimple pattern of a golf ball, with the golf theme carried through in small, deliberate details rather than plastered across the dial. The "18" on the GMT scale uses a golf course flag icon, the seconds hand counter-balance is a miniature putter, and water resistance is listed in yards rather than meters.
The case is 40mm stainless steel with a combination of brushed and polished surfaces, measuring 13mm thick and 47.5mm lug-to-lug. The screw-down crown is a standard Islander feature — rated to 100m, the crown lock adds a margin of safety that Islander considers worth keeping regardless of the depth rating. A screwdown exhibition caseback exposes the movement and custom rotor. Both the front domed sapphire crystal and the caseback crystal include inner AR coating. The watch ships on a 20mm green leather strap with yellow accent stitching; an optional stainless steel bracelet (BRAC-11) is available separately.
Inside is the Seiko NH34, a 24-jewel automatic GMT caliber that hacks and hand-winds, with a 40-hour power reserve. It's a caller GMT — the GMT hand sets independently from the local hour hand, allowing you to read a second time zone directly from the 24-hour scale on the dial without disturbing local time. The NH34 is a solid, proven movement for the price point, and the hand-winding and hacking functionality makes setting it straightforward.
