Why We Love It
Chronographs such this one are what made Wakmann’s name.
Aesthetically, it doesn’t hit a sour note. The 37mm case is a perfect size for daily wear, while its white-on-black “reverse panda” colorway offers a sporty contrast to the case’s curves. The dial is dynamic without feeling cluttered, with crisp printing punctuated by richly patinated indices.
Internally, this chrono-calendar is powered by the Valjoux Calibre 723, a variant of the ever-popular Valjoux 72 that highlights the versatility - and the horological chops - of the movement manufacture.
While triple calendars from brands such as Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Universal Genève cause a furor among the vintage watch community, true cognoscenti know the value in less recognizable names - Wakmann chief among them.
The Story
Among complications, a triple calendar is one of the most popular—particularly when combined with a chronograph function. Used by manufactures from all spectrums of the industry, from the top tier to the mid-range, the triple calendar chronograph is as impressive as it is visually appealing. Nowhere else is so much information displayed with such grace.
While certain examples trend toward the dressy, those made by Breitling and its affiliate, Wakmann, are sportier iterations that collectors love.
