In the world of collectible sports watches, arguably no exploration has dominated the industry more than space. From the moonwatch to Seiko 6139 timepieces, there is a legitimate connection to the era of the space race, hypersonic rocket-powered jet testing and the first man to ever step on the moon, Neil Alden Armstrong.
What we have here is a watch with ties to Neil Armstrong!
The Douglas Skindiver World Timer.
A relatively benign, inexpensive model from an obscure brand, the Skindiver WT utilized contract components, but was high on style. This design certainly caught the eye of Mr. Armstrong!
This piece features a familiar 'skindiver' chrome case utilized by dozens of brands in period, and is fitted with a rotating world time bezel, domed magnified acrylic crystal, unsigned crown and a luminous matte black dial with a printed 24-hour scale and hash and quadrant Arabic indices. Its stylized arrow hour hand and red seconds hand jump out at the wearer and play nicely with the red-text date displayed at 3 o'clock.
This piece is ready to be a companion on any pilot-test mission, around the globe on a jet-setting adventure, or even a trip to your local cafe!
