In 1968, Patek Philippe released the Golden Ellipse.
Debuting eight years before the iconic Nautilus, the Ellipse—with its distinctive oval shape—was unlike anything else in Patek Philippe’s catalogs. And in the early 1970s, Patek expanded the Ellipse line to include squarish case shapes - immediately dubbed "TV Cases" or "Jumbo" by enthusiasts.
This example, a Reference 3548/17, features a 27mm solid 18k yellow gold case with an absolutely stunning integrated 18k yellow gold woven bracelet with a signed locking clasp, an equally stunning sunburst blue 'sigma' dial with applied yellow gold indices and a matching pencil handset, and Patek's Calibre 215 manual winding movement within.
Absolutely fantastic.
Watches such as this one are fun and wonderful timepieces, and there's no telling if and when one of these in any condition will surface again, so don't wait!
