If you're reading this, you already know.  The Rolex Submariner is arguably the most recognized timepiece in the world, and quite possibly the most significant diver's watch ever produced.  It goes without saying that any timepiece in production for 60 years has something seriously good going for it. But in our opinion, not all Submariners are created equal.  Those produced from the mid-80s onwards featured a glossy black dial with hour markers surrounded in white gold, giving the original diver's tool watch a significantly "blingier" appearance.  Prior to this change (which occurred circa 1984), all Submariner dials were matte black in coloring, and featured painted markers without the surrounds.  As these age, they patinate brilliantly, making the matte dial Subs much more desirable to collectors and enthusiasts. While no-date Submariners (such as reference 5512 and 5513) often hog the spotlight for being the "go to" vintage Submariner, there is something to be said for a watch with a date function - particularly if you intend to wear it daily.  What we've got here is a superb example of an infinitely wearable vintage Submariner, combining the tremendous appearance of the early matte dials with the added functionality of a date display.  Dating from circa 1978, this Submariner Reference 1680 is in superb condition throughout, and comes with Rolex Service Center Papers (dated 2011). All in all, a LOT of iconic vintage diver for thousands less than the price of a new one.
