Both during the mid-20th century as well as today, Swiss brand Longines provided some of the best value in the watchmaking business.  With a wide breadth of notable designs, excellent manufacturing quality, and an interesting and compelling history, the Saint Imier-based maison needs no introduction. And though it’s operated as a mid-tier brand of the massive Swatch Group today, this has only served to strengthen the value proposition that is inherent in its catalog.  The particular watch we have here, an Admiral from circa 1969, is emblematic of the forward-thinking designs which the brand released, one after another, over 50 years ago. Housed in a 35mm stainless steel ‘monobloc’ cushion case with an acrylic crystal and a signed crown, it features a matte black dial with applied indices and a ‘baton’ handset, the Longines winged hourglass logo, the Longines five-star logo, an outer minute track, and a date window at 3 o’clock. Powered by Longines' Cal. 506 automatic winding movement, this piece comes paired to a seven-link stainless steel bracelet with a signed blade clasp. Wonderfully sized, truly handsome, and versatile in its design, this vintage Longines Admiral is an excellent daily driver for the discerning collector. Snag it before someone else does!
