Rolex Datejust 'Onyx'

Precious metal Datejusts with factory stone dials are truly special pieces. Built in very small numbers so as not to compete with its "Big Brother" Day-Date, solid gold Datejusts have been around since they were introduced in 1945, but are very scarce on the market today. We jump whenever we find a clean one - but finding one with a special factory dial such as this outstanding black Onyx stone example makes for a particularly good day! This particular example, a Reference 1601, dates to circa 1975 and features a 36mm 18k yellow gold Oyster case, with a signed crown, a yellow gold fluted bezel, a magnified acrylic crystal, and a dial that is nothing short of breathtaking in its austerity. The depths of its inky black Onyx stone dial are completely mesmerizing. Fitted to a matching yellow gold President bracelet with a signed hidden deployant clasp, this is a truly rare piece that doesn't come around all that often (less than its Onyx-dialed Day-Date sibling, in fact) - and something that we love to get some time with!
