Steinhart Ocean 39 SR Plexi - Ltd Ed 300pcs The first release in 2023 is yet another perfect tie-up between two brands with the same values and a strong passion for watches. We are introducing the Steinhart Ocean 39 SR Plexi - a Gnomon Exclusive and limited to only 300 pieces! Once again this limited produced Ocean timepiece, the “SR” acronyms are as quirky as its depiction, and, as you guessed it, the “Single Red” line of text sitting right at the bottom half of the dial. As many might know, our exclusive usually straddles very much on the vintage path, like the aged looks and period-correct elements. But this particular vintage Ocean 39 is more than our usual execution. It is the first time we attempt a beautiful sapphire “ghost” bezel which mimics the pre-aluminium insert days from the pre-sixties, which turns out to be just as nostalgic in its design as wearing it on the wrist. Only available exclusively for Gnomon, The new Steinhart Ocean 39 SR Plexi is still seen as a period-correct dive watch that seeks to be different among the big sea of conventional dive watches at the time. And in a vintage manner, a smaller case size? Checked. A unique look? Checked. New materials? Checked. The SR comes in at 39mm in diameter with a compact 47mm lug-to-lug. It has just a thickness of about 14mm, thanks in part to the domed hesalite crystal atop the dial. What we like about this case is there are additional details to it. There are additional polished bevelings at each lug of the case, and it does not come with crown guards, allowing Steinhart to bring back the "big crown" look for us. This particular style could only be found on the premium Ocean 39 models. Drilled Through Lugs - History Inspired The Single Red Ocean 39 features a unidirectional 60-minute dive bezel with a red triangle marking at its 0 position, allowing you to track your dive-time. There's another first attribute to be highlighted here. What's so unique and distinctive about the bezel is that, for the second time, we requested Steinhart to use a sapphire bezel insert in a vintage bakelite form that's been used in the pre-sixties. Sapphire was the choice of material to mimic the gorgeous bakelite bezels of yesteryears. It was expertly chosen - with the bezel giving off a charming vintage hue - while still retaining the scratch resistant benefits that a modern material like sapphire offers. The bezel features an aged shade of grey, just like the colour of a nicely patinated black bezel in which vintage collectors coined them “ghost”. The bezel rotates anti-clockwise with a solid 120 clicks and can be done with ease thanks to its pronounced grooves. The domed hesalite crystal can be seen as a Gnomon’s touch, as this material are only to be found on our special models like this particular limited edition. Right underneath is an equivalent vintage dial, the Single Red diver features a tropical, burnt black dial with circular indices, except a triangular index at 12 o'clock and the baton indices at 3, 6 and 9. A watch enthusiast who digs watches in their purest form would appreciate the no-date layout that keeps everything well-balanced, while the Mercedes hands in gilt colorway complete the looks.
