Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is perhaps Gerald Genta’s most memorable work, and in many ways changed the shape of the watch industry. The Royal Oak essentially created an entirely new category of 'luxury sport' timepieces, and with it came a new design language which inspired countless other manufactures. What's particularly delightful about the design of the Royal Oak is that it works brilliantly in a number of sizes and casing materials, from steel to carbon fiber or solid gold. This specific Royal Oak, a Reference 4100SA, features a 35mm two-tone stainless steel and 18k yellow gold construction with its signature octagonal-shaped case and yellow gold bezel. It comes gitted with a matching integrated multi-link bracelet equipped with a hidden, signed double fold-over deployant clasp. Its slate gray micro tapisserie dial is exceptional and shows a light, even patina throughout. It features applied indices, a matching handset and a date window at 3 o’clock — simple and beautifully balanced. Packed with a self winding movement, this thing has a super a vibe we’ll gladly keep from the 1980s.  We’re suckers for a two-tone sport watch when executed properly — this Royal Oak happens to fit that bill and has the brand name caché to go along with it.
