Why We Love It
Waking up to an alarm from your watch? Talk about analog...
Some of the most popular watches utilizing the alarm function are the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Vulcain Cricket, and Tudor Advisor. What we have here is a no-name piece from the most-certainly defunct Swiss brand 'Basis'. Frankly, we have no real history to share with you on this oddball brand - but the watch is so cool we couldn't pass it up!
Featuring a 36mm chrome plated case with a steel steel coin edge bezel and resonating case back, the watch is powered by a 17-jewel manual winding movement, and the alarm function is set by turning the bezel. A slider on the left side of the case - a 'la minute repeater - toggles the alarm function on and off. The cream-toned dial feature luminous indices with a deep patination, and the red sweeping seconds hand really makes it pop.
Of course, you really can't appreciate this thing fully without hearing it chime - so hit us up and we'll send you a video!
The Story
Mechanical alarms are one of the coolest wristwatch complications we can think of.
In addition to displaying the time, the mechanical movement features a secondary manually-wound spring which, when wound and released operates an audible buzzer, alerting the wearer at a pre-set time.
This buzzer not only makes noise, but physically vibrates the watch, noticeable both on the wrist or when placed on a hard surface - making the watch usable as an alarm clock as well!
