The Rolex Submariner is without question the brand's most iconic model, and is a perennial favorite among collectors, enthusiasts, fashionistas, and yes — actual divers.  And while admittedly not for everyone, there is something about a two-tone Submariner that, to us, just works. Be it the versatility, or the relative value next to its full-gold and full-steel counterparts, two-tone offers a compelling value proposition for the Submariner line. Perhaps our favorite versions of the long-running two-tone Submariner is the Ref. 16613, the last of the pre-'Super Case' models. Launched in 1988 and discontinued in 2009, it measures 39mm wide and features a case made of 904L stainless steel and 18K yellow gold. Water resistant to 300m and powered by the upgraded Calibre 3135, the Ref. 16613 is a thoroughly modern Submariner, and appeals to someone in search of something just a tad more luxurious in a wristwatch in discontinued and beloved 39mm size case. This particular Reference 16613, dates to circa 1997 and features an excellent 39mm two-tone Oyster case with holey lugs, a magnified sapphire crystal, a unidirectional rotating dive timing bezel with a black insert, a signed crown, a deep glossy black Tritium dial with a matching handset, and a solid-link two-tone Oyster bracelet with signed Fliplock clasp with dive extension. While admittedly not for everyone, there is something about a two-tone Submariner that, to us, just works. Be it the versatility, or the relative value next to its full-gold and full-steel counterparts, two-tone offers a compelling value proposition for the Submariner line.
