Oris Aquis Date Upcycle

Oris is a darling amongst watch enthusiasts today. With hits such as the Diver 65, Pointer Date, and Big Crown Pilot line headlining their collection, a slew of awesome special limited-edition models released annually, and a decidedly community-facing way of doing business rounding them out, Oris is appreciated — if not beloved — by beginner and tenured collectors alike. For divers, the Aquis is the star of the Oris catalog. Available in multiple sizes and featuring highly legible dials and automatic movements, Aquis models can compete with the best that high-end Swiss brands have to offer. Oris also releases special variants of the Aquis, of which the Date Upcycle is a notable example. With a special dial made of recycled PET plastics that’s been fished out of the ocean, it’s a unique model in which no two examples are identical. Furthermore, it’s not a limited-production watch, as Oris wants to continue this recycling program so long as there’s demand for the watches. This particular Aquis Date Upcycle from the 2020s is housed in a 41.5mm stainless steel case and features a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, a grey, unidirectional dive bezel, and a recycled PET plastic Super-LumiNova dial with a matching “coffin” handset and applied indices. It’s powered by the Sellita SW 200-1 automatic movement with date function at 6 o’clock, a Swiss workhorse that offers 38 hours of power reserve. In excellent condition throughout, this Aquis even comes with most of its ephemera. It’s not often that one gets the chance to own a unique watch and do some good via an ecologically minded brand such as Oris.  Don’t pass it up!
