We love vintage watches for all sorts of reasons, chief among them being the stories they tell. Well, this one has a hell of a story.
You’ve no doubt heard of the Reverso, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s famous reversible wristwatch, patented in the early 1930s. And if we were to show you a version of said wristwatch made by Yves Saint Laurent, you may just go and get your hands on it.
Yves Saint Laurent presented this piece in the 1970s, loosely utilizing the thesis behind the JLC Reveso to present their own take, with a distinct design language and execution. This piece comes with horizontally scrolled upper and lower flanks for the flipping case body in the center. The dial is stylized and artsy in its minimalism. Only 3, 6, 9, and 12 indexes are present, but interestingly, YSL added a full railroad minute track at the dial center. The interplay between this minimalism and superfluous detail is where the design shines.
Unlike traditional JLC Reversos with a flipping body that transitions straight into the lug structure, here, the flipping case is the widest part of the watch-- giving the piece a center heavy aesthetic that works really well here.
Fashioned from 18K gold, this piece is ready for its next fashionable custodian!
